Trump calls for ‘Wall’ and ‘Ban’ after Egypt attack

President Trump on Friday appeared to use the deadliest terror attack in Egypt’s modern history to push two of his domestic security proposals: a travel ban on certain Muslim-majority countries and a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

“We have to get TOUGHER AND SMARTER than ever before, and we will. Need the WALL, need the BAN!” Trump exclaimed in a tweet noting he would soon reach out to Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi.

Trump issued the tweet after earlier announcing he would spend part of the day golfing with Tiger Woods and Dustin Johnson at his club in Jupiter, Fla. Trump is spending his Thanksgiving holiday at his nearby Mar-a-Lago estate.

Earlier in the day, militants killed at least 235 people with gunfire and explosives at a mosque in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula. Many of the victims were Sufis, who practice a form of Islam considered heretical by some militant groups.

During the campaign, Trump called for both a massive wall along the U.S.’s southern border and a temporary ban on all Muslims from entering the country.

Trump has demanded that Congress fund the wall project, but it’s unclear if Republican leaders will back the contentious proposal and potentially risk a government shutdown over it.

Courts have frustrated Trump by repeatedly blocking his executive orders barring entry to the U.S. to people from six Muslim-majority countries: Iran, Libya, Somalia, Yemen, Syria and Chad. But last week, an appeals court partially reinstated the latest iteration of Trump’s travel ban.
